75,000 Qantas points for free - must go through points hack

Hi team,

Sorry about the delay between posts. I am working on a few deals and if possible I always test the deal out myself to see if it is worth it. An example is the St George $50 bonus when you sign up to their debit card. Looked easy as first but turns out to be quite painful process and not worth it. I am also working on a trading account post and in the process of running the numbers. In the meantime this one is a great offer!! Note Qantas is doing free cancellation on classic rewards flights at the moment! I have used this a lot in planning my up coming trip.

As mentioned before, I keep an eye out for bonus point offers on credit cards where there is no annual fee for the first year. This means you can meet the spending requirement, get the bonus points, close the card and it not cost you anything. I have found accruing points to not be a valuable trade-off if a credit card has an annual fee. Refer to my HSBC post for a great value debit card offering 2% cashback on every payWave transaction under $100.

Now you understand the value let me give you the specs.

  • Must apply through points hack link
  • To earn the 75,000 bonus points you must spend $2,500 in 3 months
    • The bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your Qantas account within 3 months of the eligible spend criteria being met.
  • $0 annual fee for the first year but $295 thereafter
  • Up to 55 days interest-free on purchases
  • Earning points:
    • 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to and including $3,000 per statement period
    • 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases above $3,000 per statement period
  • Eligibility criteria
    • Only valid if you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold or an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 12 months and you meet all other offer eligibility criteria.
    • Be 18 years of age or over, and
    • Be a permanent Australian resident or a non-permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa
    • Have a good credit rating.
      • If you want to check your credit rating have a look at NAB credit check. I have used them before; you don’t need to be a NAB customer, it is free and it won’t affect your credit score.
Value check example: Within 3 months of spending $2,500 on eligible purchases (maybe just do $3,000 just in case) on your card you will receive 75,000 bonus Qanats points and will have accrued points along the way. Then you should close the card before your 1-year anniversary because this means you would not have had to pay anything assuming you don’t accrue interest or incur late fees/dishonors etc.

Now let’s give you the things to watch out for/note.

  • Up to 9 additional cardholders for an annual fee of $65 per additional cardholder - not worth it see tricks for the players below.
  • Interest rate: 20.24% p.a. – Pay it all off each statement and avoid all interest.
  • $6,000 minimum credit limit – Don’t let ANZ select the limit. Choose the lowest. It is better for your credit score or if you want to have multiple credit cards.

Tricks for the players.

  • Instead of getting an additional cardholder just have both people add the card to their google/apple pay. Then one person can keep the card in their wallet if they want to.
  • If you have capacity and are in a couple, apply for one each and get 150,000 points!

This post has been written assuming that the reader understands how a credit card works and the consequences of accruing credit card debt. To get the information and PDS from the source please see link.

As always please let me know if you find anything amiss or think I should add something. I will not be offended; just grateful. Happy deal hunting.
